Brother Bill’s Helping Hand is a West Dallas based non-profit organization.

founded by West Dallas preacher Bill Harrod over 80 years ago, who saw a need the west dallas community had for basic necessities. in 2023 we served over 200 zip codes across north texas

To help the community overcome the challenges of generational poverty, Brother Bill’s Helping Hand has created a robust program of services including:

  • A full-service Community Clinic that provides high quality healthcare at little to no cost for our uninsured neighbors

  • A Mental Health Clinic that provides 1:1 counseling support for adults and children

  • PathWays, a six-week / 120-hour program that teaches women the skills necessary to find and keep a job

  • Educational and Wellness Programs for individuals, families and kids – from English classes, to parenting skills, Bible study groups, exercise classes and more

  • An After School Program in partnership with the West Dallas Community School for students Pre K - 4th grade.

  • A new Social Services Department to help connect neighbors to wrap-around services and resources.

  • The South Dallas Community Market in partnership with BridgeBuilders to serve neighbors in South Dallas.

  • School pantries inside the DISD Resource Center South and West, and the Inspired Vision Academy in Pleasant Grove.

Brother Bill’s Helping Hand has a full-time staff of 30 dedicated team members and relies heavily on its volunteer staff to deliver its programs. In 2023, our generous volunteers gave their time and energy with 7,000 visits for a total of over 20,000 hours. The Lives We Touch

I attend the Women’s morning exercise classes three times a week. We have Zumba Tuesdays and Thursdays and on Friday we do yoga. Since I started attending the classes, I’ve lost 20 lbs. Before beginning the classes I suffered from debilitating arthritic pain in my knees. Now my arthritis has improved and I’m able to lead a much healthier life. I also love getting to know my neighbors in such a fun way

I was very depressed. My soul was broken, and Brother Bill’s staff encouraged me to start counseling. Counseling has uplifted my life. There are actually people that care for me and they don’t even know me. The Brother Bill’s clinic was a God send, because of them I’m here, life is now worth living.

Sandra

When I first entered counseling, I started to talk about my feelings, the hatred, anger and disgrace I felt. The counselor helped me, walking with me step by step and encouraged me not to give up. I started going to church and bible study. It took me about a year to get where I am, but they helped me so much. I am a new person now and I feel better about myself.
