Every day, a neighbor walks into Brother Bill's for the first time. Every day, another walks out for the last time because they don't need to come back.

In August, the Brother Bill's grocery store gave out more groceries than in any month in its history. On Produce Days, neighbors line up as early as 5:30 for doors that open at 8. Many of them are walking through our doors for the first time.

Every neighbor who walks in, regardless of zip code, is greeted by name, in English or Spanish, and chooses their own groceries. From there, the path can lead to care at our Community Health Clinic, job training through Pathways, coaching through Empowering Financial Futures and, one day, a last visit.

Jordan came to Brother Bill's this spring struggling to find work. She took the bus to every Pathways class and never missed one. She graduated in April and started full time at Parkland Hospital in June. This fall she came back to tell the women in this year's class what God has done in her life. A new class is sitting where she sat, and every one of them is taking the same first step.
