Tabita Albornoz

Practicum Student supervised through the Center

Tabita began her journey in the United States nearly eight years ago after receiving a scholarship to study English at Dallas Baptist University. Having never visited the United States before, she embraced the opportunity and quickly developed a deep appreciation for the community and culture around her. Her scholarship allowed her to complete both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees, ultimately leading her to make the United States her home.

Faith has been an important part of Tabita’s life from an early age. She began serving through her church as a child in the children’s choir and continued growing in leadership through mission trips to Chile and the United States. Her involvement at Prestonwood Baptist Church has included serving children, teaching biblical principles, organizing activities, leading groups, and supporting teenagers and families through discussions and training.

Tabita is passionate about the connection between faith, values, and behavior and has developed a particular interest in cognitive therapies and trauma-focused approaches, including EMDR. One of her greatest aspirations is to help combat abuse and human trafficking. She has been involved with Ya Basta, an organization addressing issues including pornography and sexual abuse, and is passionate about creating safer communities and advocating for those who have been vulnerable or harmed.

Outside of work, Tabita loves to travel and frequently visits family in Chile. She also enjoys exercising as a way to stay active and manage stress and values spending meaningful time with friends, whom she considers her extended family in the United States. Her faith continues to be an important part of her life through weekly Spanish-language services at Prestonwood Baptist Church and attending The Porch at Watermark Church.

Although her immediate family lives outside the United States, Tabita has found a strong sense of belonging through the friendships and relationships she has built here. She enjoys experiencing different cultures, connecting with others, and embracing the many communities that have become part of her life.
